A Super neat Christmas present

Phyllis Coates

Received: 12/20/10

Address:
Phyllis Coates
P.O. Box 1969
Boyes Hot Springs, CA 95416-1969
USA

Comments: I have wanted Phyllis Coates autograph for my Superman collection because she was one of the original Lois Lanes, starring on the television show with George Reeves for a season. She was also an accomplished film actress, starring in many films in the 50s, including "I was a Teenage Frankenstein." I mentioned that I was a fan of that film, and she included this cool still signed "Merry Christmas, Angie, Phyllis Coates". Given the picture she sent, I think that's kind of funny, but also kind of cool. Mrs. Coates also included a notice that she charges $10 for signatures and $20 for signed photos. I guess this was a Christmas gift to me, and I am very grateful! Thank you, Mrs. Coates!

Comments: Wow! I never expected to get this back after almost 3 years, but I am so glad I did. "The Sarah Conner Chronicles" was one of my favorite shows the two seasons it was on TV. I loved Thomas Dekker as John Conner. I'd never seen a response from him by mail, but I decided to try anyway. He even wrote on my envelope a nice greeting! By the way, I found him on Twitter @theThomasDekker. Seems like a great guy!

Alice Cullen responds!

Comments: After meeting Ashley at a Twilight convention, I hoped she'd respond by mail too, and she did! Not sure if this is an autopen or not, but I'm still happy to have her sig on an Alice photo from New Moon since I think she's looked the best as Alice in that movie so far. Very happy with this success!

My own "Dear John" letter

Amanda Seyfried

Received: 9/10/10
Address used:
Amanda Seyfried
Mailbox Pack & Ship
PMB 216
3140 Tilghman Street
Suite B
Allentown, PA 18104

Comments: My second success in one week! I have become quite a fan of Ms. Seyfried after seeing "Jennifer's Body," "Dear John" and "Letters to Juliet" (my fave of the three). She's come a long way from "Mean Girls"! A seemingly very nice up-and-coming actress. This makes a nice addition to my collection.

The one and only "Chuck"

Zachary Levi

Received: 9/8/10
Address used:
Zachary Levi
c/o Middle Man Production
11271 Ventura Blvd. #434
Studio City, CA 91604

Comments: Wow! I really didn't expect to get this one back, but I'm glad I did. "Chuck" is a great show, and I am a huge fan of Mr. Levi from it. I also read an article citing him as one of Hollywood's most influential Christians, which makes me like him even more! He seems to be quite popular these days, always being mentioned in relation to various movie projects, so I have a feeling his career is about to really take off. So glad I got this.

The original "Freddy Kruger"

Robert Englund

Received: 8/16/10
Address used:
Robert Englund

Laguna Beach, CA 92651

Comments: What self-respecting fan of horror would not want Robert Englund's autograph for their collection? I've been a fan of his for years. When I was much, much younger, I loved his as Willie on "V." And of course, as the man who created Freddy Krueger, he's a legend in the business. Super happy to get this response.

Finally, my Gambit paid off!

Taylor Kitsch
Sent: 2/13/10
Received: 7/1/10
Address used:
Taylor Kitsch
c/o Rogers & Cowan
Pacific Design Center
8687 Melrose Avenue
7th Floor
Los Angeles, CA 90069
USA

Comments: Gambit is my favorite of the X-Men, and I was thrilled when he appeared in the last movie "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." Even better that Taylor Kitsch played him on the big screen. I already had Taylor's autograph from a few years ago, but I sent Taylor LOR and a picture in character as Gambit, which he returned signed, and then he included another picture that is also personalized and signed. If you look closely, the personalization "To Angie" seems to be in different handwriting on both pictures, but the signature itself seems authentic. Either way, I love this autograph! Gambit rules!

Catherine Zeta Jones

Catherine Zeta Jones
Sent: 6/17/10
Received: 6/29/10
Address used: no longer valid

Comments: I always liked Catherine Zeta Jones in the Zorro films, so I sent her a photo from the first Zorro movie. I sent my request to her during her run on Broadway because I kept seeing so many successes from her on fanmail.biz. I got back the photo I sent unsigned, and received this 8x10 instead. It's a real signature and seems authentic, so I'm happy.

Another super success!

Allison Mack
Sent: Feb. 13, 2010
Received: June 17, 2010

Address used:
Smallville
c/o 3 Films Inc.
6228 Beresford Street
V5J 1K2 Burnaby, BC
Canada

Comments: I'm thrilled, shocked, surprised to have finally gotten this success. I've been trying to get Allison's autograph through the mail for years! Chloe was my favorite character on "Smallville" until recently, and when I heard the news that Allison was leaving the show early next season, I figured my chances of ever getting a reply were slim. Allison returned the photo I sent unsigned and instead returned this official Smallville promo 8x10 signed, which is way cool for my collection. I'm not convinced this sig isn't an autopen, but the fact that it's signed in ballpoint pen and kind of hard to read makes me think it might be authentic after all. (It reads "Live with compassion. Love, Allison Mack"). Either way, I'm glad to have something from Allison! She rocks!

Anna Faris

Anna Faris
Sent: June 1, 2010
Received: June 14, 2010
Address used: via venue, "What's Your Number" c/o Boston Film Office

Comments: Anna Faris is one of my favorite actresses because she can make me laugh like no one else. I thought she was cute in "The House Bunny" and hilarious in the "Scary Movie" franchise, but I've been waiting for a role that will do her comedic talents justice. She can play a stupid blond like no one else, but I'd like to see her try a different role, just because I think it would be hilarious. This is probably the third time I've tried to get her autograph, and yay, I finally got a response. And it's personalized!

A scary success

John Carpenter
Sent: 5/10/10
Received: 5/22/10

Address used:
John Carpenter
Storm King Productions
8532 Hollywood Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90069

Comments: John Carpenter has always been one of my favorite writer/directors. I grew up on his movies. "Halloween," "Halloween 2," "The Fog," and "The Thing" are some of my all-time favorites. Especially "Halloween," the original, which is probably my favorite movie of all time. This was a very fast success! I'm psyched!

A heavenly surprise!

Comments: I love, love, love the angel Castiel on "Supernatural," so I was beyond excited to get Misha Collins' autograph today. Seriously, folks, he's been a wonderful addition to the cast since the angels were introduced, and I just love Misha (and Castiel) to pieces. And he's hot, especially for an angel. :D He not only signed the photo I sent him, but he sent another one personalized to me and paid the Canadian postage. Now I have all three of the main players' autographs. Awesome. Thanks, Misha! You rock!

Another "New Moon" success!

Daniel Cudmore
Sent: March 12, 2010
Received: March 22, 2010

Address used:
Daniel Cudmore
McKeon-Myones Management
3500 Olive Avenue
Suite 770
Burbank, CA 91505-5527

Comments: Wow, this was a super fast success. A few weeks ago, I attended a Twilight convention in Atlanta. I purchased this 8x10 of Daniel Cudmore who plays Felix in New Moon, but I wasn't able to stay for Saturday's events to get it signed. I mailed it to Daniel with a LOR and got this back 10 days later! I have been a fan of Daniel Cudmore's since I saw him in "The X-Men" as Colossus. I love the fact that he is very tall and quite handsome underneath that Volturri makeup! Since he responded to my request, I'm guessing he's also a nice guy!

Autograph collecting advice

I've gotten a few e-mails and comments lately asking me for help with autograph collecting, so I decided to post a step-by-step guide to help folks who don't know.

There are many ways to collect autographs. I'll give you the basics.

THE EASY WAY —

Step One: Who do you want to write? You’ll need to find their fan mail address.

• The free site I use for addresses is www.fanmail.biz. You can even visit the feedback forums there to see if anyone has ever gotten a response from the celebrity you want to write. Sometimes celebrities will post their fan mail address on their OFFICIAL web sites. Always check to see if they have an official site with this information first.

Step Two: Write a letter of request. I’ve found more success if I hand-write rather than type my letters, but I’ve had successes both ways. I always address my letters to the celebrity, say a few words about why I am a fan, and then politely ask them for a signed photo. I usually keep my letter to about one page.

Step Three: Mail your letter! There's a slight chance you'll get a response.

FOR CAST PHOTOS —

Follow all of the above steps, but rather than writing to the celebrity, write a letter of request to the show or movie's production office. Ask for a signed photo of multiple cast members. A lot of people have gotten entire cast signatures on a single photo this way. It's a good idea to send a self-addressed stamped 9x12 envelope with your letter, but not always necessary. (However, I recommend it).

BETTER YOUR CHANCES OF GETTING A REPLY —

Step One: Again, who do you want to write? You’ll need to find their fan mail address and, to better your chances of getting a response, buy or print a photo of them to send.

• Again, the free site I use for addresses is www.fanmail.biz.

• For photos, there are a few Web sites I recommend. www.Moviestore.com and www.celebrity8x10s.com let you buy 8x10s for around $5 a photo. If you have a good printer and photo paper, you can print one yourself. To print a photo, do a Google search only on images and set your filter to large. When you find a photo you want to print, right click on the photo and save it to your computer. Then print it on photo paper (you might need to resize the image to fit).

Step Two: Buy envelopes. Whether you send a photo for the celebrity to sign or not, you still need to include a self-addressed stamped envelope. I always send a 9x12-sized envelope. Address one envelope to yourself and put enough postage for them to simply insert a photo and drop it into the mail. I usually put around $1 US postage on my return envelope. If you are sending a request to a celebrity in another country, do not put postage stamps on your return envelope. Some people include actual money instead, but it’s better to use an International Reply Coupon which can be purchased at your local post office or station. The choice is up to you.

Step Three: Write a letter of request. I’ve found more success if I hand-write rather than type my letters, but I’ve had successes both ways. I always address my letters to the celebrity, say a few words about why I am a fan, and then politely ask them to please sign and return the photo I have included. I usually keep my letter to about one page.

Step Four: Put your letter of request (or LOR) and the photo you wish signed into a 9x12 envelope along with your self-addressed stamped envelope. Mail it to the celebrity using the address you found for him or her. It usually takes around 4 to 6 months to get a response if you’re going to get one. Sometimes longer.

Good luck!

Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning
Sent: 4/13/09
Received: 3/09/10

Address used:
Dakota Fanning
c/o Cindy Osbrink
Osbrink Talent Agency
4343 Lankershim Boulevard
Suite 100
Universal City, CA 91602

Comments: I think I wrote to Dakota just before it was announced that she had signed on to play Jane in "New Moon." I sent her the picture, which she (or someone) returned enclosed in a plastic sleeve. I was actually a fan before Dakota joined the Twilight Saga. I have thought Dakota was adorable since I saw "Uptown Girls" and I've watched her grow up through various roles. I wasn't sure she'd ever respond, but this was worth the wait! I'm excited to see her in "The Runaways" soon. It looks like it will be her most memorable role to date.

A "Castle" success x2!

Stana Katic

Sent: 11/16/09
Received: 02/13/10
Sent 8x10 from her role as Kate Beckett on "Castle"; received my photo back signed along with another 8x10 she supplied.

Address used:
"Castle"
5300 Melrose Ave.
Clune Building, 2nd Floor
Los Angeles, CA 90038

Comments: It's always really cool to get a response like this from a celebrity you really, really like. "Castle" is one of my favorite newer shows -- I don't normally like crime procedural shows, but this one combines humor, crime and style in a way that's reminiscent of some 80s-90s shows I always loved (think "Moonlighting" and "Remington Steele"). Stana Katic plays Detective Kate Beckett, and she is quite awesome in the role. In my letter I mentioned that I'd just rented "The Spirit" and was surprised to see that she was in it too, and that I liked the movie more than I had expected to. Not only did she inscribe the photo I sent her from "Castle," she sent me a second photo with a longer inscription that shows she actually read my letter! Totally awesome!

A blast from the past!

Hayley Mills
Sent: Oct. 19, 2009
Received: Jan. 22, 2010

Address used:
Hayley Mills
c/o Chatto And Linnit Ltd
123a Kings Road
GB London SW3 4PL
England

Comments: My best friend is a Disney fanatic, so when she asked me to write Ms. Mills and ask for an autograph for her, I naturally requested one for myself too. I sent her this photo of "The Parent Trap" poster because I couldn't find a decent photo of Ms. Mills anywhere. I loved "The Parent Trap" and "That Darn Cat!" as a child, so I am so happy to get this one back. Ms. Mills signed one for me and one for my friend. I might frame this. It's pretty cool!

Vampire Diaries!

Sent: 11/23/09
Received: 1/21/10

Address used:
Attn: Publicity
"The Vampire Diaries"
234 Park Central Blvd
Decatur, GA 30035

Comments: Wow! After having a really horrible day, I came home to find this nice surprise waiting for me in the mail. I sent this photo to the publicity department of the "Vampire Diaries" set in Georgia and included a respectful letter of request for at least one signature from any of the three lead actors -- whomever had the time or inclination to sign. I'm kind of shocked that all three leads -- Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder -- signed it!! It's not personalized, but that's OK. What a nice surprise. And the envelope even has a "Home of the Mystic Falls Timberwolves" sticker on it. How cool is that?

Most wanted for 2010

I had a good year for collecting in 2009. These are the autographs I want the most in 2010:

*Kristen Stewart, *Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Emily Blunt, Stephanie Meyer, *Tom Welling, Allison Mack, Mischa Collins, Sam Worthington, *Nathan Fillion, Eliza Dusku, Lena Headey, Victor Webster, *Skeet Ulrich, Anna Paquin, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, Kerr Smith, Kristen Bell, Ryan Reynolds, and William Shatner

*Does anyone have any suggestions on how to obtain these?
