Comments: I wrote to Eric after he guest starred on "Smallville" as Booster Gold. I'm obviously a huge fan of Superman and DC Comics, and I LOVED Eric in this role. Since he was also on "Passions," which I used to watch on occasion, and he now plays Brady on "Days of Our Lives," I needed him for my collection anyway. Comments: OMG! I swear to God, I never thought I'd get this back, and especially with such a cool inscription, but wow! To find this in the mail after coming home from DragonCon was like the icing on the cake! Jennifer is a great actress (just watch "Winter's Bone") and I love what I've seen of her personality on talk shows. I haven't seen many TTM successes reported from Jennifer -- but granted, she's a fairly new star and might not have received many requests. I saw where many people were getting their requests to the HG production office sent back RTS (return to sender, unopened) so I figured I wouldn't get mine back at all since it was sent so long ago. As far as I can tell from comparing it to in-person sigs, this may or may not be authentic. I can't find any signatures from Jennifer on the web that look alike! Based on the inscription, whoever signed it also read my letter. I teased and said that those yankees, the North Caroliners, had better treat her right while she's there or they'd have me to answer to (I live in a neighboring state). And for this inscription to be on a picture of Katniss is just amazing, if it's real. Best autograph day EVER! (If anyone has an authentic, in-person signature from her, please let me know. Id love to compare them!)

Update: After much debate and comparisons to other signatures on the fanmail.biz forums, the majority opinion now is that this is indeed a real signature. I don't know how I was so lucky to get such a cool inscription, but this has been bumped up to my favorite all-time autograph.

Comments: I love Mr. Landau! He starred in one of my all-time favorite movies, "Ed Wood," and won an Academy Award for his portrayal of one my all-time favorite people, Bela Lugosi. He was also in "Mission: Impossible" and the first "The X-Files" movie. So when I met Mr. Landau, I told him how much I loved him in these roles and told him I thought he was amazing! He was so grateful. He grabbed my hand and told me "Thank you" a few times, and then we chatted some about our favorite scenes from "Ed Wood" - it's a movie he loves as well. I was holding up the line, so I didn't get to spend as much time chatting with him as I'd have liked, but I was so honored that he grabbed and held my hand -- not once but twice -- and kept telling me thank you! A truly dear man who I am grateful I had the chance to meet!

Comments: One thing I like about DragonCon is that you really have a chance to meet some big stars one on one, and I have been a fan of Eliza's for years - since she first starred on Buffy. She's a tough signer to get through the mail, so I went to her signing line first. She was so nice to everyone! Because her line was probably the longest there, I didn't get to talk to her much, but I did tell her that I loved her from "Tru Calling" and still miss that show, to which she replied, "At least we were able to keep it on for a little while." Then I told her that my niece was probably the biggest Buffy fan in the universe and that that same niece had also made me watch "Wrong Turn" (a movie Eliza stars in) more times than I personally cared for. She laughed and said, "Awesome!" She's guest starring on "White Collar" soon on the USA Network, and I'm looking forward to seeing her on screen again with her "Tru Calling" co-star Matt Bomer!

Comments: Wow, what can I say about this one? Sean Patrick Flanery has been one of my favorite actors since I was in high school. He has been in so many movies - many of them independent - and TV shows and is such a good, underrated actor! I've been trying to get his signed picture through the mail for a long time! Even better, I got to meet him! I was so nervous too. I mean, at his age, he is still a very hot man! I told him that I'd seen probably all of his movies and that my favorites were "Powder," "Lone Hero" and "Ten Inch Hero," but it's so hard to choose because he's made so many! He told me he was thrilled to meet such a fan and that he hoped he made lots more movies I would check out. You know I will, Mr. Flanery. You know I will. ;)

Comments: I have a confession to make. I was never a fan of Joe's until recently. I HATED his character on "One Tree Hill" and disliked him as Flash in "Spider-Man" too. But when I started watching season 3 of "True Blood" last month and met Alcide for the first time, I quickly revised my opinion and jumped aboard the bandwagon of fans who totally love him. Plus, what can I say? He's extremely hot. I didn't really say much to him, in fact, because his hotness rendered me completely speechless. I could only stare. And I am being completely serious. Still, he was very nice and friendly, and I enjoyed his personality in the True Blood Q&A immensely!

Comments: Being the Twi-hard I am, I have been trying desperately to get Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson's signatures for years now. Both used to be excellent TTM signers until they became so popular I imagine they each need 18-wheelers to haul their fan mail every month. I finally got a response today from Kristen Stewart! Unfortunately, it's a pre-print (meaning it's a copy of a signature and not the real deal) from Studio Fan Mail. It's a nice picture though. I'm grateful to finally have Bella Swan's picture to add to my Twilight collection. Kristen is my favorite actor from the franchise. Love her. I think she gets a bad wrap for playing Bella. Most of her movies are really good, but then again, I love indie films, so I could be biased. Slightly disappointed in the pre-print, but I am such a fan of KStew that I'm genuinely grateful to have anything at all!

I've been trying to get Margot Kidder TTM for years, but I finally caved in and paid for this personalized autograph, obtained at one of her recent personal appearances. (I must say that for an authentic, personalized signature, the price was extremely reasonable compared to most!) Ms. Kidder's portrayal as Lois Lane is the one I grew up with and loved, so this success is very nostalgic for me. So glad to finally have hers for my collection. Comments: They say you always remember your first, and in my case, that's very true. C. Thomas Howell was the first celebrity I ever crushed on. In fact, I'm pretty sure he was the first boy I didn't think was icky. I was around 10 at the time, and I thought he was waaay cute in "E.T." and I was all about his Ponyboy in "The Outsiders" (which is still one of my favorite films of all time). By the time I saw "Red Dawn" I was done for. I think I've seen every film he's ever made (including another all-time favorite, "The Hitcher," and yes, I've seen all of the bad films, too), I still have the poster of him that hung on my wall for years as well as the hundreds of teen magazines from the late 80s and early 90s I collected with him in them. I know for a fact that my first fan letter, ever, was written to C. Thomas Howell, when I was in the fifth grade. I told him I loved him and wouldn't mind marrying him and invited him to our house for supper (I'll never forget my mom's reaction to that one). It has taken me probably 25 years to get a response. Don't worry -- I stopped including marriage proposals once I hit high school. But persistence pays off (and I suspect the fact that his career really has gone downhill since the 90s helped a little, too). I am ecstatic at his "Stay gold" inscription on the photo I sent him from "The Outsiders" because it's a shout-out to the film, but I almost fell over when I saw that he'd sent me this incredible movie still from "The Outsiders" as well. Thank you, C. Thomas Howell. You've made this diehard fan very happy and fulfilled a lifelong dream. :)

Comments: I've become quite the fan of classic cinema, and Doris Day is a living screen legend I knew I needed for my autograph collection if I wanted to hold my head up high. The star of such films as "Pillow Talk" and "Calamity Jane," Ms. Day is an icon of cinema. However, I discovered she started an animal welfare foundation, a cause near and dear to my heart (and something that only made me like her more). I made a small donation to the foundation via its website and added a note asking if Ms. Day accepted autograph requests, and if so, where to write. A couple of weeks later, this autograph arrived along with a brochure about the foundation. The signature on the 8x10 she sent me doesn't totally match the signature on the brochure, but I'm happy to receive this success anyway. The picture alone is worth a great deal!

Comments: I have wanted Phyllis Coates autograph for my Superman collection because she was one of the original Lois Lanes, starring on the television show with George Reeves for a season. She was also an accomplished film actress, starring in many films in the 50s, including "I was a Teenage Frankenstein." Allison returned the photo I sent unsigned and instead returned this official Smallville promo 8x10 signed, which is way cool for my collection. I purchased this 8x10 of Daniel Cudmore who plays Felix in New Moon, but I wasn't able to stay for Saturday's events to get it signed. I mailed it to Daniel with a LOR and got this back 10 days later! I have been a fan of Daniel Cudmore's since I saw him in "The X-Men" as Colossus. Autograph collecting advice

I've gotten a few e-mails and comments lately asking me for help with autograph collecting, so I decided to post a step-by-step guide to help folks who don't know.

There are many ways to collect autographs. I'll give you the basics.

THE EASY WAY —

Step One: Who do you want to write? You’ll need to find their fan mail address.

• The free site I use for addresses is www.fanmail.biz. You can even visit the feedback forums there to see if anyone has ever gotten a response from the celebrity you want to write. Sometimes celebrities will post their fan mail address on their OFFICIAL web sites. Always check to see if they have an official site with this information first.

Step Two: Write a letter of request. I’ve found more success if I hand-write rather than type my letters, but I’ve had successes both ways. I always address my letters to the celebrity, say a few words about why I am a fan, and then politely ask them for a signed photo. I usually keep my letter to about one page.

Step Three: Mail your letter! There's a slight chance you'll get a response.

FOR CAST PHOTOS —

Follow all of the above steps, but rather than writing to the celebrity, write a letter of request to the show or movie's production office. Ask for a signed photo of multiple cast members. A lot of people have gotten entire cast signatures on a single photo this way. It's a good idea to send a self-addressed stamped 9x12 envelope with your letter, but not always necessary. (However, I recommend it).

BETTER YOUR CHANCES OF GETTING A REPLY —

Step One: Again, who do you want to write? You’ll need to find their fan mail address and, to better your chances of getting a response, buy or print a photo of them to send.

• Again, the free site I use for addresses is www.fanmail.biz.

• For photos, there are a few Web sites I recommend. www.Moviestore.com and www.celebrity8x10s.com let you buy 8x10s for around $5 a photo. If you have a good printer and photo paper, you can print one yourself. To print a photo, do a Google search only on images and set your filter to large. When you find a photo you want to print, right click on the photo and save it to your computer. Then print it on photo paper (you might need to resize the image to fit).

Step Two: Buy envelopes. Whether you send a photo for the celebrity to sign or not, you still need to include a self-addressed stamped envelope. I always send a 9x12-sized envelope. Address one envelope to yourself and put enough postage for them to simply insert a photo and drop it into the mail. I usually put around $1 US postage on my return envelope. If you are sending a request to a celebrity in another country, do not put postage stamps on your return envelope. Some people include actual money instead, but it’s better to use an International Reply Coupon which can be purchased at your local post office or station. The choice is up to you.

Step Three: Write a letter of request. I’ve found more success if I hand-write rather than type my letters, but I’ve had successes both ways. I always address my letters to the celebrity, say a few words about why I am a fan, and then politely ask them to please sign and return the photo I have included. I usually keep my letter to about one page.

Step Four: Put your letter of request (or LOR) and the photo you wish signed into a 9x12 envelope along with your self-addressed stamped envelope. Mail it to the celebrity using the address you found for him or her. It usually takes around 4 to 6 months to get a response if you’re going to get one. Sometimes longer.

Comments: I think I wrote to Dakota just before it was announced that she had signed on to play Jane in "New Moon." I sent her the picture, which she (or someone) returned enclosed in a plastic sleeve. I was actually a fan before Dakota joined the Twilight Saga. I have thought Dakota was adorable since I saw "Uptown Girls" and I've watched her grow up through various roles. I wasn't sure she'd ever respond, but this was worth the wait! I'm excited to see her in "The Runaways" soon. It looks like it will be her most memorable role to date.

Comments: It's always really cool to get a response like this from a celebrity you really, really like. "Castle" is one of my favorite newer shows -- I don't normally like crime procedural shows, but this one combines humor, crime and style in a way that's reminiscent of some 80s-90s shows I always loved (think "Moonlighting" and "Remington Steele"). Stana Katic plays Detective Kate Beckett, and she is quite awesome in the role. In my letter I mentioned that I'd just rented "The Spirit" and was surprised to see that she was in it too, and that I liked the movie more than I had expected to. Not only did she inscribe the photo I sent her from "Castle," she sent me a second photo with a longer inscription that shows she actually read my letter! Totally awesome!

Comments: Wow! After having a really horrible day, I came home to find this nice surprise waiting for me in the mail. I sent this photo to the publicity department of the "Vampire Diaries" set in Georgia and included a respectful letter of request for at least one signature from any of the three lead actors -- whomever had the time or inclination to sign. I'm kind of shocked that all three leads -- Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder -- signed it!! It's not personalized, but that's OK. What a nice surprise. And the envelope even has a "Home of the Mystic Falls Timberwolves" sticker on it. How cool is that?

I can mark another one off of my most wanted list for 2009. I've written Alex O'Loughlin multiple times since I first started watching "Moonlight," which I might add, was my favorite new show of the 2007-2008 season and further proof that I loved vampire tales before Twilight. I was upset when CBS canceled the show. Now Alex is on CBS again, in "Three Rivers, which is good but it's no "Moonlight." Each time I wrote him, I sent Alex pictures in character from "Moonlight," but he only sent me this high quality 8x10 from his new show. I'm not complaining! Not only is the photo personalized, but he put a heart sticker on the envelope beside my name and protected the picture with a piece of cardboard. I'm thrilled with this success!

I already had Peter's autograph through the mail, so I wanted to get his signature on a non-Twilight photo. I'm glad I did. I've met a lot of celebrities, and my experience with Peter Facinelli is, hands down, my favorite so far. Not only is he 10 times better looking in person, he is one of the nicest people I have ever met, celebrity or not. He personalized all of his autographs (even though I suspect he was told not to) and gave hugs to all of his fans who asked during the autograph session. We waited in line almost 4 hours to get Billy and Peter's autographs for this reason, but meeting Peter at the end made it all worthwhile. He was so friendly and nice to everyone. When he saw I had this picture from "Nurse Jackie," he seemed so glad I'd brought it and talked to me for a couple of minutes about his character on the show. If you ever have the chance to meet Peter, do it!! He's awesome to his fans. He's a very gracious man.

I was not much of a Kellan Lutz fan before the TwiTour, but he totally won me over in person. He's another one who looks so much better in person, and he has the personality to match. He's so funny, very buff (what a body!), very gracious to his fans and he has this way of looking right at you with his beautiful eyes, smiling and making you feel special. When I told him thank you for signing my picture, he looked me right in the eyes and said, "No, no, thank you for coming. This is the least I can do." He even made my niece -- who swore he was only "okay" -- get tongue-tied when he talked to her. She's pretty hard to impress, and now she loves him too!

Since I had received Jackson Rathbone's autograph through the mail, I thought it would be cool to get Ashley Greene to sign the same photo. Ashley is one beautiful woman in person. She seemed almost shy, and when I asked her to personalize my picture, she apologized and said they'd asked her not to, and she seemed a little bothered to have to tell me that. I thanked her and moved aside to wait to meet Kellan. When I glanced back toward Ashley, she was staring at me. Then she reached out her hand and wiggled her fingers, signaling me to hand her the photo again. Without a word, she signed "To Angie" and handed it back. So now I have this totally awesome signed photo from both Jackson Rathbone and Ashley Greene. If she hadn't personalized it, I probably could have sold it on ebay for an easy hundred or so, but this is one of those autographs that means more to me than money could buy. Thanks, Ashley!!

Twilight fan events

It's no secret I'm a fan of Twilight and hoping to get a complete set of autographs from this awesome book-to-film series. Luckily, there are some fan events scheduled to help me and others like me accomplish this task with in-person autograph opportunities.

Salute to Twilight/Twi*Tour conventions: these are planned for Atlanta, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Chicago and a variety of other places and will feature between 4-6 cast members from the first two films at each event. The Vampire Baseball Adventure is scheduled for Portland, Oregan, June 29-July 5 with Twilight cast and crew. This is where they filmed the first Twilight movie, and the coolest part of the movie was the baseball scene. All I can say is WOW! This, at the moment, is my favorite autograph of all time. Some backstory: I'd heard Nikki wasn't a good TTM signer because, as she has said before in interviews, she doesn't understand why anyone would want her autograph. Still, I liked her as Rosalie and rented "Thirteen" and was blown away by her, so I sent her this photo just in the hopes she might respond. My letter must have done something right! Love this inscription, since it's obvious she actually read my letter. To clarify, my letter told her that I thought she did great as Rosalie and that I was very impressed that she had written "Thirteen" and starred in it at such an early age. I mentioned my hopes for seeing "Eclipse" since Rosalie has a bigger role in the book, told her she and Kristen Stewart were two of my favorite young actresses because they showed a lot of integrity in the roles they pursued, and I made a tongue-in-cheek reference that I was sorry, but I hated the O.C. (Nikki had a role on it way back when) and not even Nikki could make me like it. :) I'm still in shock and quite amazed I got this back and got it so quickly.

It took almost a year to receive this obvious pre-print from one of my favorite "Grey's Anatomy" stars. Patrick Dempsey actually has the honor of being the first celebrity I ever met in person. I was 14, working in a deli at the local mall, and he walked in to order while I was at the counter. Apparently he'd been in town filming "Coupe DeVille." My friend and I made total fools of ourselves (we were obsessed with watching "Can't Buy Me Love" and recognized him instantly) but I managed to snag his autograph on a napkin and snap a few pictures courtesy of the camera shop a few doors down. Poor guy. If I'd only known back then what a huge star he would become. Still, I'm glad to add this hunky pre-print next to my authentic in-person signature.

"Psych" has become one of my favorite shows, and I love James Roday as the title character. When I researched his past work, I saw that he wrote the screenplay for "Skinwalkers," a werewolf film coming out this summer. I know he read my letter because I mentioned that I was a writer and hoped to write a screenplay myself someday. His inscription says it all, "Always Be Writing."

I have been trying to get Scott Speedman's autograph for years, ever since I fell for him in the first "Underworld" - a movie I consider a guilty pleasure. I took a chance and wrote to him in Florence, S.C. on location. He signed the photo I sent and included a placard from the production. I was thrilled.
